1 in 5 Americans is living with chronic pain on most days—a statistic from the National Health Interview Survey cited in an article in this Summer’s Issue of Massage Therapy Journal published by the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). Massage can offer a solution to many different causes of pain.
Massage is a tool to help manage pain—one that is a non-pharmacological choice. Many people are experiencing chronic pain and they are not even aware of what is causing the pain. It’s not just a matter of getting older or having an injury-although both of those can be factors—chronic pain can be caused by diseases like fibromyalgia but other times, we feel pain and we are not sure what is causing it. Massage therapy can help with alleviating that pain and can also be measured with outcomes like better sleep, better mood, increase in activity, and better mobility and range of motion. Massage as a regular part of your health regime can bring so much more than just a relaxing hour on the table.
